North Toronto is home to many of the city’s best public elementary and secondary schools, as well as an array of private institutes. From athletics and extra curricular activities to community involvement and education, these schools provide students with a well-rounded and diverse learning experience.

 

Here is what you need to know about five of the top North Toronto schools, as rated by the Fraser Institute.

 

 

Founded in 1910, North Toronto Collegiate Institute is a public high school located on Broadway Avenue. This non-semester school has a population of approximately 1,200 students, with a diverse collection of clubs including the Appreciation of Fine Things, Model UN, and Engineering Club.

 

 

Located on Chatsworth Drive, Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute is a non-semester public secondary school for over 1,400 staff and students. This institute is known for its French Extended and French Immersion streams, and has over 50 athletic team and clubs.

 

 

Known for its strong academic reputation, Forest Hill Collegiate Institute is a semestered public school for grades 9-12. With under 950 students in attendance, Forest Hill’s smaller population has easy access to the school’s tennis courts, athletic field, track, and hockey arena (also open to the public).

 

 

Leaside High School is located at the corner of Eglinton and Bayview and features a reputable French Immersion program. This public school has approximate 950 students, with some well-known alumni including author Margaret Atwood.

 

 

Located in the Hogg’s Hollow neighbourhood, Loretto Abbey Catholic Secondary School was founded in 1847. This all-girls secondary school has an extended French program for qualified students, athletics such as cross country and field hockey, and co-curricular activities including choir, Me to We, and a debating team.
